Te Kāhui Tika Tangata is Aotearoa New Zealand’s national human rights institution. The Commission was created to provide better protection of human rights in Aotearoa. We are committed to supporting a life of dignity for all, and to becoming a Te Tiriti based organisation tauira and human rights exemplar.
The Human Rights Commission was created to provide better protection of human rights in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Commission was formed in 1977 and works under the Human Rights Act 1993.
We are funded through the Ministry of Justice but operate independently of the New Zealand Government as an independent Crown Entity.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
We have a part-time Project Coordinator role available that is Auckland-based.
The Project Coordinator is a key member of cross-Commission project teams developing and implementing systems to support the successful delivery of Human Rights projects. The role works across a range of large and small-scale projects assisting with project processes, internal and external stakeholder management, document management, logistics, and planning and reporting. The Project Coordinator also proactively assists, or may be directed when there is capacity, with administrative support within their team and rōpū and wider Commission.
Our ideal candidates are quick thinking, forward planning and proactive, and has experience providing support to multiple projects and project teams. You will be able to juggle competing demands and multi-task in a busy environment and can build and maintain relationships with a wide range of external project stakeholders and communities.
- Provide project administration and planning support
- Establishing and managing document filing systems
- Project team communications
- Meeting planning and administration
- Assisting with communications and engagement strategies
- Supports stakeholder relationships
- Assist Project Managers to develop project planning documents, budgets, and other key project documentation
- Monitor project actions and deliverables
Understanding and/or interest in human rights and community engagement would be valuable for the role.
Duration: this contract is expected to be for a period of 24 months.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Professional qualification or equivalent experience in business/public sector administration/management
- Formal training in project management methodology is desirable, but not essential
- 2-3 years’ practical experience in a project administrator/programme administrator role and a minimum of 1 year in project co-ordination
- Solid experience in project management processes and procedures
- Excellent self-organisation skills, detailed oriented and outcome-focused
- Familiarity in the Human Rights environment and/or knowledge of health or housing systems and issues is desirable, but not essential
- Experience providing secretarial support to project teams and meetings, and supporting multiple projects
- Commitment to and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including a demonstrated commitment to working in a Te Tiriti context
- The ability to organise and prioritise workloads to produce high quality results within designated timeframes
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
- Experience in facilitating online meetings and workshops through video-conferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams)
- Demonstrated success in building relationships
