Te Kāhui Tika Tangata is Aotearoa New Zealand’s national human rights institution. The Commission was created to provide better protection of human rights in Aotearoa. We are committed to supporting a life of dignity for all, and to becoming a Te Tiriti based organisation tauira and human rights exemplar.
The Human Rights Commission was created to provide better protection of human rights in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Commission was formed in 1977 and works under the Human Rights Act 1993.
We are funded through the Ministry of Justice but operate independently of the New Zealand Government as an independent Crown Entity.
Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role
This role collaborates across Hiranga Tōpū, our organisation services team, with the leadership team and other people leaders to provide future focused and proactive advice, plans and support to ensure risk is mitigated and the organisation has the right culture, capability, and capacity in place to support the achievement of organisation’s strategic objectives.
The Senior People and Culture Advisor is responsible for P&C service provision to the Commission with the support of a P&C coordinator and working closely with COO, Organisation Services Manager, Payroll and Finance, you will be the subject matter expert for the Commission and be responsible coaching and mentoring of the P&C coordinator and taking the lead across all P&C disciplines including employment relations, change management, bargaining, culture and capability initiatives in alignment with our organisational priorities and strategic outcomes.
Please note this role is a permanent part-time at 30 hours per week across four or five days.

The successful candidate will have sophisticated relationship and rapport building abilities and be able to demonstrate an easy self-awareness and cultural competency.
You will be very skilled and experienced in providing a broad range of expert People and Culture advice as well as developing and implementing frameworks, policy, and process at all levels of an organisation. It is a complex work environment, and your hands on approach to service delivery will ensure managers and are people are well supported in all aspects of their roles.
You will establish yourself as a trusted advisor quickly through your delivery of timely and pragmatic solutions, and your warm and engaging interpersonal skills will influence the achievement of people-centred outcomes. You will be a proactive, energetic and initiative-driven person who seeks opportunities to work collaboratively with others, offering coaching and mentoring to develop junior team members as required.
You will have a track record in building meaningful professional relationships that drive change. Your demonstrated ability to apply policy and process in complex environments is essential, as is a working knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application to all work practices.
